Postdoctoral Position – Neural Regeneration and Nerve Tumors

A postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Young-Jin Son at the Center for Neural Development and Repair (CNDR), Lewis Katz School of Medicine, Temple University, Philadelphia. We seek a highly motivated scientist to join newly funded NIH projects building on our recent discoveries in somatosensory axon regeneration and Yap/Taz signaling in Schwann cell myelination and peripheral nerve tumors. Representative recent publications from our group include: Kim H, et al. Deleting PTEN, but not SOCS3 or myelin inhibitors, robustly boosts BRAF-elicited intraspinal regeneration of peripheral sensory axons. bioRxiv (2024). doi:10.1101/2024.09.18.613685 Kim H, et al. TEAD1 is crucial for myelination, Remak bundles, and functional regeneration of peripheral nerves. eLife (2024). doi:10.7554/eLife.87394 Our studies use genetically modified mice, microsurgery, in vivo imaging, conditional/inducible transgenics, viral transduction, electrophysiology, advanced microscopy (FIB-SEM, lightsheet, confocal), ultrastructural analysis (TEM/SEM), behavioral assays of motor and sensory function, as well as molecular and genomic tools (ChIP-seq, proteomics, RNAscope, RT-PCR, single-cell RNA-seq). Candidates with prior research experience in axon regeneration, Schwann cell biology, or nerve tumors and familiarity with some of these methods will be given preference. The CNDR provides an outstanding training environment in neurodegeneration and regeneration, with access to state-of-the-art core facilities and close proximity to downtown Philadelphia. Salary is commensurate with experience and follows the NIH scale, with an excellent benefits package.
