Reception and Dinner: During the poster session

We are pleased to announce the Association of Korean Neuroscientists (AKN) Annual Symposium for 2009.  Following the tradition of the AKN Symposia held in the past, we will hold a poster session during which twelve posters will be selected for the Annual AKN awards (4-6 Predoc and 4-6 Postdoc) by the Symposium Committee Members.  We hope that this poster session will provide a great opportunity for scientific interactions and collaborations among the participants.

Poster presentation and award selection:

1. Poster presentation:  Members who email their abstracts will be given space to present posters at this year's AKN symposium (see below for abstract submission procedure).  Because of the space limitation, we may NOT be able to accommodate all posters. The poster presenters will be notified and given their assigned poster board numbers prior to the meeting. We ask that only one poster be submitted from one laboratory.

2. AKN award selection:  We encourage graduate students and postdoctoral fellows to apply for the Annual AKN Research Awards by submitting their CV (2 page maximum) in addition to their abstracts. The selection will be based on the scientific merit of the abstracts, CV, and posters. The AKN awards will be announced and given at the end of the poster session. Only those who are present at the poster session are eligible for awards.

3. Submission of abstract:

Deadline:  September 30, 2009 at 5 p.m.  EST

If you are conducting your research in Korea, please submit your abstract and CV to:

        Eunjoon Kim, Ph.D. (KAIST)

        kime@kaist.ac.kr

If you are conducting your research outside Korea, please submit your abstract and CV to:

Kyung-Tai Min, Ph.D. (Indiana University, Bloomington)

        kyumin@indiana.edu

Subject heading should be "AKN abstract--Graduate student" or "AKN abstract--Postdoc". If you do not submit your CV, you will not be considered for an award, but your abstract will be considered for poster presentation at the symposium.  Previous recipients of the AKN award are not eligible for another award in the same category, but we encourage you to submit an abstract for poster presentation only. You will be notified about poster presentation by October 7, 2009.

4. Please forward this e-mail to your colleagues and other AKN members because our e-mail list of AKN may be incomplete.

5. Finally, we have created a new interactive membership directory to be able to keep up with changes in contact information of our members.  Please register by entering your contact information.  This is the only list we will use to send out announcements.
