Postdoctoral fellows and graduate students who are interested in investigating mechanisms of tumorigenesis with a translational emphasis are encouraged to apply for postdoctoral training in the Nakamura laboratory.  The laboratory is located in the Mission Bay Campus at the University of California, San Francisco Helen Diller Cancer Research Building.  In this highly collaborative, multidisciplinary environment, our efforts are focused in two major areas:  1) the genetic and molecular mechanisms underlying Nf1-driven tumorigenesis, and 2) understanding the pathogenesis of second malignant neoplasms (SMNs), a major and understudied problem in oncology.  We utilize both in vitro and in vivo models to study these processes and a major goal is to translate our findings into investigational trials for both therapeutics and prevention.  We have established collaborations with SPOREs and clinical groups to achieve these goals.

The post-doctoral fellow will be expected to develop a leadership role in two or more projects, at least one of which will be translational. Career development opportunities include development of scientific presentation and writing skills, as well as paper presentation at national and international meetings.  Requirements include an MD or PhD, and fluency in English.  Individuals with experience in mammalian cell culture systems and mouse models are preferred.
